How to regulate parking with full seriousness?

You need to think about the field monitoring system and its correct settings. A prerequisite for effective monitoring of compliance with the parking rules is that payments through all payment channels are registered on the basis of a vehicle registration plate and parking authorizations are issued electronically (not in the form of a paper card).

In that case, the monitoring can be carried out by scanning and recognition of the license plates – by the scanning vehicle system. The eligibility of parking is evaluated on the basis of data from the central database and according to the GPS location where the vehicle license plate was captured.

How does the monitoring work and for whom is the scanning vehicle a suitable solution?

If the city has a larger number of regulated parking spaces, it needs to carry out monitoring both during the day and at night. It is necessary to use technological solutions that make it possible to check thousands of vehicles a day. The involvement of a mobile monitoring system – a scanning vehicle – in the process is of great benefit.

The technology is based on a camera system mounted on the vehicle. While driving, the system recognizes the license plates of parked cars in real-time. The data collected is processed online (towards the database of resident permits and parking tickets from various payment channels).

The result of the inspection, indicating the location of the parking violation and all metadata is available immediately in the ParkDots system. Reported violation can be pushed to the ParkDots Enforcement mobile application to be resolved, or to the municipal police information system via integration for further processing.

Which technology and supplier to choose?

There are many different technologies and manufacturers available on the market. Important parameters to consider include the reliability of operation in a wide range of weather and light conditions (even in complete darkness) or the ability to scan at a speed of at least 50 km/hr. The most important criterion is the precision rate of the correct recognition of the scanned vehicle plate number, where the city should not be satisfied with values below 95%.

High-quality technology can be more expensive to procure, but the higher investment is usually offset by high reliability (low error rate) and system throughput (thousands of recognized plate numbers per hour). A well-designed and functioning system minimizes the number of violations and ensures high payment discipline in the drivers.
