Vroclav & ParkDots

The city of Wrocław, one of the most beautiful Polish cities, is a popular tourist destination. It is a modern metropolis that strives to keep up with the times, help residents and visitors and use the latest technology. It places great emphasis on raising the standard of living of its  and pays special attention to disabled residents / visitors and ensuring their maximum comfort. Together with the city of Wrocław, we embarked on a project that is an inspiration for other world metropolises.

Background

Uncoordinated transport, buses going round in circles and ignorance of parking rules have caused many collisions and confusion in the streets of Wrocław. Parking for buses required a more efficient and simpler system that would help drivers with orientation, comfortable parking and navigation to a free parking space. For disadvantaged drivers, the city was looking for a solution that would guarantee them easy parking and provide them with information on the occupancy of reserved places. The city wanted to use the statistics to better set its parking policy and improve the protection of parking places against unauthorised parking.

Objectives:

  • creating a convenient and simple system for coordinating the movement of tourist buses around the city
  • increasing the discipline of drivers
  • elimination of the problem with buses parked all day long in the city centre
  • simplifying the monitoring and management of parking spaces by the city
  • better system of navigation to reserved parking spaces
  • monitoring of parking spaces with a limited maximum parking time
  • Improving the standard of living and facilitating parking for disabled drivers
  • making decisions on parking policy on the basis of quality data

Why to cooperate with ParkDots?

Why did Wrocław decide to cooperate with ParkDots and T-Mobile Polska? What was decisive and most important for them when choosing a solution provider?

ParkDots together with T-Mobile Polska won the public tender and we became a qualified winner – a solution supplier.

Ready-made parking software from a stable company – expertise, references and professional approach

Complex solution – mobile application, administration system, reporting

Ready for integration-connection with already established systems

Innovative approach and technical security – a cloud solution, the ability of comprehensive delivery from one partner

Proposed solutions

The project for Wrocław consisted of two basic solutions. Each of them was based on the need to install parking space occupancy sensors on the roads, set up a data processing system and launch an application for drivers. All three elements mentioned above are interconnected and bring benefits to the city, its employees and the municipal police, but especially to motorised residents / visitors.

Solutions

A comprehensive system of tools that communicate with each other and create the perfect solution for managing parking in the city.

Occupancy sensors – installation and commissioning of Fleximodo sensors, NB-IoT connection

ParkDots mobile application – information on car parks and their occupancy, navigation for drivers

ParkDots Enforcement system – parking management and inspection, application for the city

Data analysis and reporting – data processing into transparent reports, analysis of key metrics (occupancy, infringements)

Implementation

Comment on the cooperation

The launch of the project for the city of Wrocław required the cooperation of several strong partners. Exemplary communication and a clearly defined common goal made it possible for us to create something unique.

“We are pleased to have been able to implement such a complex project with our strong partner T-mobile Polska. We were faced with many challenges that we were able to effectively solve and put into practice thanks to well-defined requirements from the city. Improving the system in many respects – better work with data from sensors and related reporting, enhancing the functionalities and improving the application, as well as making it accessible to disadvantaged drivers. These are just a few of the changes and innovations that the project has brought to the world of parking, and I believe that they will be an inspiration and will also benefit other cities.”

Martin Budaj, ParkDots product manager

“The city of Wrocław has been introducing the idea of the Smart City for a long time. It is a concept that uses modern technologies to improve the quality of life of its citizens. The city management has acquired a platform for information exchange. With this platform, we will have information on the occupancy of parking spaces, and thus also on their use. This will enable us to manage the parking places more effectively.”

Robert Bednarski, Smart City Wrocław

What we have achieved

Fewer buses in the city centre, happier drivers and more comfort for disability card holders. Satisfaction can also be seen among the city employees and on the overall atmosphere in the streets. Take a look at some interesting numbers about the Wrocław project.

632,000
inhabitants
91
parking places for buses
111
reserved disabled parking spaces
202
sensors installed
5,980
infringements detected during 8 months of operation

What they said about us

The monitoring of parking spaces is a system implemented jointly by the city of Wrocław and T-Mobile and PosAm. It is an innovative system that provides citizens with information on where to find a free parking space and where the parking space is occupied.

The city of Wrocław has been introducing the idea of the Smart City for some time. It is a concept that uses modern technologies to improve the quality of life of citizens.

The city management has acquired a platform for information exchange. With this platform, we will have information on the occupancy of parking spaces, and thus also on their use. This will enable us to manage the parking places more effectively.

At this point, the test operation of the system was completed. Together with T-Mobile and PosAm, we also started live operation for those most in need of such a system, i.e. people with disabilities. Tour bus drivers can also benefit from this system.

We use NB IoT technology provided by T-Mobile. It is an extremely secure network for radio data transmission, and what is the most important for the user is the ParkDots application from PosAm that provides drivers with up-to-date information on free and occupied parking spaces.
